San Blas Islands, Panama

The San Blas Islands are a group of islands located in the Northwest of Panama facing the Caribbean Sea. The 360 or so tropical islands are home to the Kuna people who have maintained political autonomy from the mainland since a revolution in 1925. This Indigenous group control tourism on their own terms. These islands are the number one vacation destination in Panama because of the unspoiled beauty. The Kuna people protect their lands and keep them healthy and peaceful. These gentle native people know how many visitors come to their islands and where they stay. Accommodations are eco-friendly and made by the Kuna people from natural materials found on the islands and in the jungle.
